It was a surprisingly humid night in downtown Las Vegas despite the recent weather being unnaturally chilly lately. Alex had been enjoying the drop in temperature more so than any other Vegas resident she believed and now that the heat was back she was miserable. Growing up in below freezing temperatures didn't prepare her for the dry heat Nevada provided. Every so often the family would take a trip back to Russia for a few weeks during the holidays and every time she returned she was immediately reminded of how much she loved the cold. However Alex loved freedom more than anything and now that her year was up as well as her confidence in her control she set out for her first night out alone.
Because of Andrei's connections in the Strip Alex thought best to stay away from the busy casino streets and opted for a quieter place. Fremont East District wasn't necessarily quiet but compared to the Strip it wasn't as wild or luxurious which was perfect for the shy girl. When she left the house she had no destination in mind, letting her legs lead her where ever they wanted to go. For the first hour Alex felt confident in her urges, having drank as much as she could manage without getting sick before leaving the house. As the night grew later the more people started to flood the sidewalks. At first Alex felt just fine but as she passed a alley the smell of blood reached her sensitive nose, making her halt in her tracks. Her blue eyes peered down the dark alley for any sign of the smell. To most the alley was too dark to tell but Alex's enhanced sight managed to pick up two homeless men shooting up beside a dumpster. One apparently was new to the experience as his arm was dripping with blood. The blood was nowhere near as tantalizing as most but still it was blood nonetheless.
Despite the foul smell she was receiving from the pair she was still afraid her good track record would shortly be ruined. In an effort to escape the smell of the blood she headed for the nearest door and did so with haste. Once inside she realized she had entered a bar. The strong smells began to overwhelm her but they weren't nearly as foul smelling as the two homeless guys so she decided to stick it out. Slowly Alex walked towards the bar as her eyes gazed around the unfamiliar room. Alex had been to one club before during the first few months of her transitioning but that was a mistake. Now Alex felt more confident with her vampire urges but the shy, timid girl was still there. For a moment she opted to turn around and take her chances outside but before she could change her mind and act on it she was already at the bar. Though she still had her doubts she figured a drink would help her control her urges even better, not that she had ever tried before. Luckily for her she had made her own fake ID weeks before and had remembered to put it into her wallet. If that didn't work she could just compel the bartender like Andrei taught her.
With her eyes still vigilant she took one of the stools at the bar and waited for the bartender to notice her, not fully paying attention to him as her eyes were glued to her surroundings and her mind concentrating on everything but what, or who, was in front of her.
